Test to determine the sex in the eight week of pregnancy

The presence of foetal DNA in the mother’s blood allows us to determine in an early way (week 8th) the sex of the baby with no need to use invasive techniques. The DNA of the baby is loose in the mother’s plasma in a proportion between 3 and 5%. This foetal DNA can be purified and amplified by means of PCR in order to detect specific areas of the sexual chromosomes.

This technique has been also developed for the non invasive prenatal diagnosis of illnesses related to the X chromosome or genetic illnesses coming from the father’s side. This test has a reliability of almost 100%.

Families having curiosity about knowing the sex of their baby can, through their doctor, nurse or directly in any of clinics of Instituto Bernabeu, through a simple blood extraction know it in a fast way. Being a non invasive method, it does not present any risk for the mother or the baby.
