Analysis of ovarian reserve: Antimuleriana hormone (AMH)

Recently a technique has been developed to measure the antimuleriana hormone (AMH).

This hormone allows us to find out with great certainty the ovarian reserve, i.e. the period in which a woman is fertile. It can be detected in blood and the test can be done at any time of the woman’s cycle. Its value is affected by contraceptive pills, pregnancy, etc.

The test is used to predict response to IVF treatment, artificial insemination and other assisted reproductive techniques, as well as helping us decide if egg donation is the best way to go.

It can also help in the decision to freeze your own eggs before they run out and so prolonging your fertility.

The result takes two to three days.
